DOT Inspector General recommends annual testing to monitor ARRA funds

About 77 percent, or $37 billion, of the Department of Transportation’s stimulus funds will be funneled through major grant programs, but, according to a memo from Calvin Scovel, DOT Inspector General, some of these programs have been at risk of improper payments.

The Inspector General recommends annual testing of a wider range of DOT contracts to insure ARRA funds are properly distributed. The Office of Inspector General has a hotline for reporting allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, or mismanagement in DOT programs.
